The river Ganges had been polluted for a number of years due to industrial discharges and human activities on the Ghats of Haridwar and Rishikesh. It was not too long ago that a report was released stating that the water from river Ganges is not fit for bathing let alone drinking.

Amidst the lockdown, the absence of industrial discharge and pollution by humans, the river for the first time in decades has improved significantly. These images released were taken in Haridwar. Also the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board has revealed that the water is fit for drinking after chlorination. The report also mentions that the water from the river Ganga was marked Class A for the very first time.

Also, a report was released online stating that the Government of India has analysed the reasons for pollution in the rivers and also imposed restriction on usage of rivers.
