Kalki Subramaniam, who is a Transgender activist completed her education in Journalism and Mass communication. She has been campaigning for transgenders and their rights since 2005. Kalki even started a matrimonial website for the transgenders but later shut it down as there was no finance. She started an organization for the transgenders called Sahodaran in 2008. She has created more than 12 documentary films on transgender rights. Kalki is one of the successful transgenders who started social organizations for the transgenders and fought for their rights.
Kalki made her debut as an actress in the movie Narthagi in 2011. She went on to act in a scene in Vijay’s Sarkar in 2018. She has also acted in a Hindi film Kalshnikov- The Lone wolf. Kalki is not just an actor but is known for her poetry and art work. She has been invited by many countries like US, Germany, Canada.
Kalki believes in saying stories through her art. She has depicted real-life stories of transgenders through her drawings. She paid a tribute to late actress Sridevi through her paintings. Kalki said that Sridevi’s movies helped her when she was at a bad place in life.
Kalki’s collection of poems on transgenders was published in the name Kuri Aruthean in 2015. She has penned numerous articles in Tamil and few of the poems from Kuri Aruthean were translated to German in 2018. Kalki also adopted these poems to be made into short visual films under the title Vadu.
